Reading Responses
One of the most important aspects of this blog is the reading response posts that students will be completing, throughout the school year. Reading response can apply to several different types of assignments, but essentially, the comments by the students will remain similar. At the most basic level, students will be responding to posts made by me, the teacher, that will prompt them into thinking critically about something that we have read in class. The posts will have no specific length requirement, but should be well thought out and the students should express some knowledge of the material.
Some topics available for discussion might be a novel, short story, poem, or movie; characters, plot, setting, conflict, climax; symbolism, use of figurative language, themes, mood, narrative points of view, etc. Students will be asked to elaborate on one of these ideas, explaining their own thoughts and opinions. This will encourage those who are less inclined to talk in the classroom to participate and to have more time to form an opinion.
